Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler Treatment with Juvéderm® ULTRA or Restylane®
Botox and Dermal Fillers

As our skin ages it gradually loses its major constituents: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Collagen acts as the major support protein for our skin, elastin allows our skin to stay firm and resist wrinkles and hyaluronic acid helps to trap water and add volume and shape to our skin. The loss of these constituents produces changes in our skin and together with other factors like genetics, sun exposure, alcohol and smoking increases the likelihood of our skin developing lines and wrinkles. These types of lines are known as static lines and they are visible when our face is still.

Dermal filler are used to replace the loss of these elements in the skin. Dermal fillers are injected just below the skin and are being used more and more to help reverse the changes associated with ageing and provide a more youthful look. Dermal fillers are used to soften and contour lines, folds, and wrinkles. Dermal Fillers also mimics the hydrating and lifting effect of your skin’s natural hyaluronic acid, which keeps the skin hydrated and elastic. This effect of the Dermal fillers in the skin helps to fill and smoothes away facial lines, other skin contour deficiencies and helps replacing the lost volume.

There are different types of dermal fillers used in cosmetics, the safer dermal fillers are those containing hyaluronic acid, one of the natural occurring substances in our skin. These fillers are non-animal based and therefore there is a minimal or no risk of allergic reactions. That is why at DermaTops we have made the choice of only using Hyaluronic acid fillers.

There are two main brands of Hyaluronic acid fillers. Those are Juvéderm® ULTRA and Restylane®. Both of these products have the choice of being manufactured with local anaesthetics to minimise discomfort that this treatment can produce. These products are the market leaders and have outstanding safety results. They have consistently demonstrated predictability and safety.

The areas most commonly treated with dermal fillers to provide a more youthful look are:

  • The nose to mouth lines (Nasolabial fold),
  • Lines around the mouth (Perioral lines and Oral Commissures),
  • Natural lip enhancement and definition of the border.
  • Natural Cheek Augmentation.
  • Also can be used for replacing soft tissue volume loss and scar corrections.

As mention previously, the treatment is carried out with products containing anaesthetic you should not experience pain during the procedure. When the anaesthetic wears off however you can experience a dull ache for the first few hours or days and you are advised to take regular paracetamol during this period.

After the treatment the area will be red and swollen. The effects of the swelling can take up to a week to resolve although the majority of the swelling should start to resolve within a couple of days during which time you are advised to sleep on your back with an extra couple of pillows. There may also be some bruising associated with the treatment that can take a few days to settle down. At DermaTops clinic we advise our customers to use Lycogel camouflage post procedure. Lycogel will counteract heat sensation, reduce swelling and will camouflage any bruising and/or redness resulting from the procedure. This will enable you to continue with your normal daily activities. Lycogel can also be use as your everyday foundation as it will keep your face protected with non-paraben SPF 30.

At DermaTops, we offer you a full medical assessment prior to your first treatment. We will advise you on an individualised plan of treatment to suit your needs. This process gives you a great opportunity to ask all the questions that you might have and discuss the treatment plan. Dermal Filler Treatment can be applied alone or in combination with other treatments.
